Lilliput (by Night)

<=> *An opus of extraordinary beauty and by far my favorite generative composition (ala eno). If one listens closely, riverrun (Daniel Land) put a lot of time in the upfront composition, utilizing micro sounds, field recordings, suspended notes, spatial accents as well as larger pads (like waves) all rapped in a light fog, softening the moving soundscape. The result for me is an extended sense of serenity for Observation, Remembering or Dreaming...
My Ambient Album of the year for 2019! Favorite track: 50° 42' N; 1° 57' W.

The original ‘Lilliput’ album, which I released in 2018, was a longform, evolving piece of music that ran to nearly 50 hours in duration. I chopped the piece up into fifty hour-long sections and burned the segments onto fifty CDs, which meant that each CD copy had a unique hour-long “slice” of the composition.

The CDs of the album have long since sold out, but ever since I've had an ambition to release a much longer version of the composition – and 'Lilliput (by Night)', which is nearly ten hours long, is my attempt to do that.

'Lilliput (by Night)' in an entirely new generation of the 'Lilliput' piece. While many of the elements of the original composition remain, the piece has continued to evolve, and there are many subtle additions and subtractions. In addition, the greater timescale involved in this piece meant that the various compositional elements could loop and repeat at a much slower rate than on the original release.

As a result, the piece changes a great deal, but very slowly; quieter hours alternate with louder hours, which are interspersed with occasionally dramatic bursts of activity. The overall effect is like watching the weather change slowly over the course of a long afternoon, making this a suitable record for reading, deep thinking, writing, and sleep...

about

riverrun England, UK

Daniel Land's riverrun project is a series of heavily-composted landscape recordings, that he has been working on for nearly two decades in parallel to his songs. Building upon the groundwork laid down by Brian Eno's 'On Land' album, riverrun's music painstakingly layers field recordings and reprocessed studio tracks into a deeply nostalgic exploration of geography and memory. ... more
